As promised, this blog will endeavor to bring lots of threads of my journeys to bear in a large tapestry woven from many perspectives. While I have traveled the globe, I have sojourned the most theologically as in biblical theology with the assistance of biblical studies, philosophy, and the context of which I have physically been outside the modern Western world allow me to see the Bible differently. I feel it is a disservice to Scriptures in all their majesty to pursue and defend only one reading of the text as if I or my chosen favorite traditions has the only answers or even the best ones. In pursuing dialogue over monologue, I find that I become enriched in many ways to see the text differently from various perspectives every time I engage it as it has a power over me and my simple life.
Who am I to be the sole authority on how the text will engage the reader? Its authority lies far outside of me to make such claims to have power over the Scriptures. God forbid (to quote the Apostle Paul)! I want it to have power over my feeble existence!
As I look in the mirror, I can only say it is far superior to my simpleton’s viewpoint. I cannot say the readings I give here are better (perhaps much worse) than others already available elsewhere. I humbly offer them as a service to those who have asked. In these blogs, I have many rabbit trails that I wish to follow, taking me to wonderlands below the earth I have trodden.
If you disagree, you have every right to do so. I claim no power over you. I only ask for you to submit instead to its power over us as intended by the Power behind it. I have many series I wish to pursue to that end and will haphazardly as conditions warrant go off the trail to post something relevant to something I need to address presently.
For now, there is so much in my past to dig through upon which to meditate that I desire to revisit and discover new depths by which to frame those older views in matured manners as I have gained more perspective in my studies. Life does intrude. Also, I have many pending projects upon which to catch up, including feeding this blog regularly. The site itself is multi-faceted and has many strands that require my attention, along with hopefully an attached YouTube channel.
Much ministry awaits my attention. One place I wish to begin is well at the beginning. To perhaps answer the question of “Why this blog?” as in why the name “No More Sea?” it will take a great deal of context to get to the answer as this blog is a long time coming, but it would not be so well to not revisit much I have discovered to flesh it out and make others to see what lies hidden beneath this specific choice.
Thus, the plan is to start with a blog post on the Bible’s beginning. However, aside from the first verse or the opening chapters and even Gen 1 itself, the opening word alone is quite chock full of relevance. It will take much time for me to reflect and revisit the scholarship to share anew what is the foundation for this concept and why for me, at least, it matters so much. So I hope to engage that in the next blog.
All God’s Best!
